The Independent Designer of the Week is Designoptions- a jewelery shop on Etsy featuring kiln-fired enamels, "high contrast" pieces.

Here is my favorite item from Designoptions- fleur de lis choker. I love French "things" and I am REALLY into red right now! Thiswould match my new red patent leather pumps perfectly!!

I asked Lynda a few questions about the craft business!

How would you describe your crafts/Etsy shop?

I would describe my etsy shop as always ready for summer: fun, exciting and hot!

How did you get started?

I started making jewelry about ten years ago. I took an intro class at my community college and was hooked. After a year there, and many workshops later, I ended up at the maryland institute's art jewelry program in baltimore for four years.

How long have you been crafting?

I have been making and selling things since I was about 6 and I carried a box of stones I had painted door to door to sell to my neighbors. For some reason, they bought them.

What is your inspiration?

My inspiration for working with my hands came from my father who was a professional photographer back in the day, and could also draw and draft. My mom was really into fashion and read vogue and mccall's and loved twiggy so I did too. She made a lot of clothes to help make ends meet. I loved the mother/daughter matching dresses with coordinating coats! My mom's mom sold her incredibly chic knitted dresses and suits to high end department stores on the west coast. She taught me to knit and crochet, while my dad's mom taught me to hand sew and make lace (tatting). I learned how to embroider from my great grandmother who made amazing crazy quilts.

What is your favorite piece in your shop today?

My favorite piece is any one of my "lucky" pendants. They are reversible and fun and perfect for taking away for the weekend.

How do you market/advertise your wares?

The first and most major thing I have done is join Etsy and open my shop. Etsy's design is clean and modern; its super simple to manage and navigate. You can't beat having a convenient shopping cart! I have tried to read all of the marketing advise Etsy has available and implemented some of their suggestions. I load and reload my work several times a day. I try to make a treasury whenever I can stay up that late. I have been fortunate to be featured in treasuries somewhat regularly and that seems to have kept my exposure on the sight up. I have joined several social networking sites such as indiepublic, we love etsy, and facebook to meet and mingle with as many like-minded artist and regular people as possible. I love to shop and do all of my shopping on line, so social shopping sites like stylehive and stylefeeder are perfect for me to bookmark my favorite finds and showcase my own work for no cost. I met the wonderful ladies from diycitymag.com recently on stylehive and they will be featuring my fleur de lis pieces in an article on New Orleans. So, its already working!

Any advice to fledgling crafters / entrepreneurs?

Yes - as a general rule in life, do what you believe in, and try to have fun doing it.

How would you describe your crafts/Etsy shop?

My jewelry is simple but I try to make it unique at the same time, mostly traditional, although I do follow some trends. My baby blankets and washcloths are traditional for the most part while still being one of a kind.

How did you get started?

Friends told me I should try to sell my jewelry and my good friend and Etsy seller AliV found Etsy and here I am!

How long have you been crafting?

Forever! Even at 5 years old I was taking apart costume jewelry and restringing the beads every morning to match my outfit. I had the best accessories of all my kindergarten class! My sister and I used to spend our summers crafting. Right after school ended my mother would take us to the craft store and get us whatever supplies we wanted for our summer crafts. I started off making braided friendship bracelets from embroidery floss for everyone I knew (even my dad wound up wearing a few) and somewhere along the line I discovered beads.

What is your inspiration?

I just like to make things that look good - whether they are traditional, trendy, one of a kind or easily replicated. I am inspired by looking at my beads sitting in there storage caddy and picturing them in a necklace, or braclet or earrings.

What is your favorite piece in your shop today?

This bracelet made with purple glass hearts and amethyst crystals is my favorite jewelry piece:http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=7339102 And this classic rainbow zigzag blanket is my favorite crocheted piece. How do you market/advertise your wares?

I do a lot of little things, I am street teams, I hang out in the Etsy forums, I've been in some buy and replace treasuries, I spam my friends and family and I have a blog that I update as regularly as life allows. (http://madebymelissa.blogspot.com/)

Any advice to fledgling crafters / entrepreneurs?

Don't give up!! It takes a while to get started and make a name for yourself. Keep listing things and relisting expired items, promote yourself and make things that you like. Don't sell anything that you aren't completely proud of. Its easy to promote things if you truly love them, and if you love them, then there is certainly someone else out there who will love them as much as you do.

My 2 new loves .....

Obviously, I LOVE handbags. But, my second love is sunglasses. I wear sunglasses everyday of the year - everyday of the YEAR!! I am like the postal workers - rain, snow, sleet, hail - I wear my sunglasses. I basically find 2 pairs that I like and literally drive them into the ground. I mean, if you were a pair of sunglasses atop my nose, you would be SERIOUSLY worked.

So, on to my new loves of 2008! Metallics are SO hot - they're everywhere!! I want to wear this new trend but I am a stay at home mom and wife of a man who is studying day and night for a SERIOUS test in June so.....I rarely dress up how I would like. I do, however, dress up with handbags, scarves and SUNGLASSES!!!!

These are my two little metallic pretties - the top I bought for $5.99 at Charlotte Russe - what a steal!! The bottom I bought the same day for $22.00 at a mall kiosk - so Top Gun :> I love them and I feel good in them - which is well worth every penny spent!!!

1. How would you describe your crafts/Etsy Shop -

I would describe my crafts and my shop as a celebration and an embracing of the inner little diva in myself, that quality that both my daughters, many little girls in fact happily show the world.

2.How did I get started -

During a play date my oldest daughter and her friend were playing ballerinas, I thought wouldn't they be cute in tutus. I knew I could buy them, but decided to give it a whirl on my own, after many trial and errors I came up with the design that I love and decided okay lets take it to the next step, discovered Etsy and here we are.

3.How long have I been crafting -

I think I really got going when I became a SAHM, I always had a desire, but me in my 20's, ugh don't get me started, I just didn't have the focus, when my priorities changed so did my desire to really find my creative energy.

4.What is my inspiration -

So many things, but mainly nature. Nature really comes up with some pretty creative and amazing color combinations; flowers, birds, the sky at dusk,endless inspiration.

5.What is your favorite piece in your shop today -

My favorite piece today, I think is my Pastel Rainbow Satin Wrapped TuTus, it is just so incredibly girly and adorable!

6.How do I market/advertise - I am just getting started so my focus has been 1st, word of mouth, thankfully I have a large family and group of friends who have done an amazing job helping me spread the word and handing out business cards. 2nd I have joined networking groups like Designing Swanky Moms, IndiePublic, Posh Mamas and the Mom Pack. These amazing moms, designers, crafters, entrepreneurs have been a huge resource and have helped get my name and tutus out there as well as providing a wealth of information and support to help me move my business forward!

7. Any advice for fledgling crafters/entrepreneurs -

Since I still consider myself a fledging, the best thing I can offer is find something you love to make and or sell, believe in yourself, don't be afraid to ask for help and support and seek out any and all resources.

A BEAUTIFUL day with my kids!!

We had an absolutely delicious day today!! It was about 70 degrees and SUN!!! I love the spring :> My kids are having a GREAT time everyday riding around in my son's new motorized car. My daughter at first was afraid and now she just loves to zip around with my son. She asks everyday to "Go for a ride in Brady's car." I can't wait until she can steer herself because I am already eying up the Barbie jeep for her! Our neighbor, who is 4, has that car and my daughter LOVES to just sit in it and get a ride. She is really into pink and girly stuff so the Barbir jeep is completely up her alley!

Now, on this sunny delightful day, while I was somewhere hacking down blades of tall dead grass (the ornamental kind), my son decided to sneak into the house, grab my camera and start snapping!! I like to call this one - Caught red handed!!! :>

This was also his concoction today that he decided to photograph - I like to call it - "My snack and my toys in a bucket of dirty water." I wonder what he calls it!! I wonder if my son has a future in this photography thing :>

The Independent Designer of the Week is Dinner Time Chimes - an enchanting shop on Etsy specializing in recycled dinner ware wind chimes to felt flower bookmarks.

Here is my favorite piece from Dinner Time Chimes- Ready for the Beach - Shell Spoon Windchime. I can imagine sitting on my deck enjoying the tranquil sound as I dine al fresco. Ahhhhh.....summer!!!

I asked Erin of Dinner Time Chimes a few questions about the craft business!

How would you describe your crafts/Etsy shop?

We like to think that our shop is filled with unique gifts, that just happen to be created from things that other’s no longer have use for.

How did you get started?

The windchimes started out as a way of having something fun to make with my dad when I was in middle school and to also give me something to hunt for at flea markets. Over the years, it's turned into 'what can I make out of these?' thrift hunts for silverplate and anything that I think will work as a bird house. Now that I’m married and have convinced my husband that this is fun, the work continues.

How long have you been crafting?

I’ve been making crafts for as long as I can remember, I must have something to do at all times.

What is your inspiration?

Since almost everything in our shop is created from other’s trash, I guess that I’d have to say that I’m inspired by estate sales and thrift store finds. The reason that I continue to make wind chimes after so many years is that I love the look on people’s faces at shows when they realize that it’s real forks and spoons making that beautiful song they’ve been hearing as they’ve strolled along.

What is your favorite piece in your shop today?

This one goblet windchime ( http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=673386 ) is my current favorite, mainly because I think that the picture turned out great. Getting a perfect shot of the windchime, when the wind’s not blowing and it can be cropped to a square for Etsy and still look impressive has proven to the more difficult that I would’ve thought. My second favorite is the boot birdhouse, mainly because it’s so unique and people browsing the shop can’t help but click to see what it is.

How do you market/advertise your wares?

Since this business is a hobby for us, we rely heavily on word of mouth advertising. The local free online advertising has worked out great, mainly because the items that we create are so unique. The local NCTriangle Etsy Street Team (http://nctriangle.blogspot.com/ ) has really started working together to support each other through Etsy and local shows, and soon we hope to start doing some advertising both locally and nationally to find shoppers. In addition to selling online via Etsy and our own website, we have windchimes in a couple local antiques stores.

Any advice to fledgling crafters / entrepreneurs?

Follow your dreams and do what you enjoy. Crafting and selling what you make should be fun and exciting; otherwise you should ask yourself if it’s worth it. Ask questions if you need help with anything, the crafting community tends to be very giving and friendly.

Birds before dawn

It is dark. My son looks up the stairs. He turns to me. "I'm not going up there," he says. "It's dark up there!" My 2 year old daughter turns to me and says, "It dark up dare!" and "Ooooohhhhh!" I tell my son that there is nothing going on in the dark that there isn't going on in the light.

Yet, tonight as I sit and watch Pride and Prejudice (I LOVE all period British moive and especially Jane Austin!!!), I have a realization. In the film, Lizzie begins to hear a most beautiful sound. It is the sound of the first bird just before dawn. I begin to imagine my experiences with this sound. This is my connection - In your desperation, it starts as a faint sound in the back of your mind. You lay there in the darkness, still thinking and trying to shake the terror you feel. And then, wait....there it is again. You begin to think that it might be a sweet sound. wait....yes, there it is again and again....and wait. again! The sounds are coming so quickly now. You don't even need to look out the window. You know that daylight is coming. You know that everything is changing now. Changing from the dark of the night. So now it's "better."

I actually connected with my son in that thought, that moment from the film. I once felt how he feels about the dark. I remembered my feelings. I realized that my practical advice of there being no difference of surroundings between day and night means nothing when you are scared. I felt the empathy of the moment. I did not belittle his feelings. I will not. I will try every day to feel them in my heart.

How would you describe your crafts/Etsy shop?

I would say that my jewelry is sometimes funky, sometimes elegant, and sometimes somewhere in between! I love color and I love things that have some sparkle to them.

How did you get started?

I first started making my own jewelry using inexpensive beads and plated wires. Once I felt like I had mastered the basics, I started diving into buying actual semi-precious gemstones. I learned most of the techniques I know by heading to my local library and checking out jewelry-making books and by buying beading magazines. So pretty much I self taught myself everything I know. People around my small town started asking me about my jewelry and if I was selling it. It wasn't until my jewelry collection got ridiculously large that my husband suggested the possibility of selling my stuff. I also noticed that when I had yard sales and was selling some of my first beginner pieces, people where showing up early and literally ripping jewelry out of each others hands. That was really exciting to see people eager to buy even the basic stuff.

How long have you been crafting?

I've only been making jewelry for about 4 years now, but come from a family of crafty people so its in my blood.What is your inspiration?As I've gained more confidence over the past few years of making jewelry, I've gotten bolder at making more interesting color combinations in my work. I see some of the fabrics that my sister uses in sewing her handbags and I just fall in love with the colors. Mostly though my inspiration just comes from wanting to make something out of the ordinary that you wouldn't find at the local shopping center.

What is your favorite piece in your shop today?

I absolutely love my white topaz and freshwater pearl earrings. I think they are absolutely stunning.

How do you market/advertise your wares?

In addition to selling on etsy, I have my jewelry in a gift shop in a neighboring town. People are able to pick up one of my cards there too which directs them to my etsy shop. Although I would love to be able to list at least one item a day on etsy, sometimes it just doesn't happen (3 kids) although I definitely list at least 3 or 4 pieces a week or even relist an item. I also make sure to wear some of my work wherever I go, even to the grocery store, and keep a full stock of business cards in my purse so that anyone who comments on what I'm wearing can be handed a card. I find that is like being a human billboard. Who cares if you are just heading to the Post Office or the grocery store, throw on a fabulous chunky necklace and matching earrings and turn some heads. I also get on the "We Love Etsy" network usually daily and list photos of my work. I also check out the forums on etsy and convo other etsy crafters.

Any advice to fledgling crafters / entrepreneurs?

Be persistent. You can't list 10 items on etsy, not do anything for a month and expect the sales to come rolling in. Get your name and your craft out there. Do a craft fair or something of that nature. It's a way to get your name out there to a lot of people at one time. Don't be afraid to share what you do with people. For me, the best kick start to my business was getting my items in gift shop.

The NEW Dolce Bag

I am pleased to introduce the latest addition to the Simple Sweetcakes handbag line - the Dolce Handbag. In Italian dolce means sweet. I think that this sums up the bag. I really wanted a sleek and modern looking handbag with also practicality in mind.

We all carry our LIVEs around in our handbags. We need a bag that can stand up to that tall order. So, the Dolce is tall ~12 inches and it's wide ~ 12 inches. What a delicious dress!!

I LOVE this fabric! I want to make a large beach tote with it. This Milly dress is fab!! I love the blue with the white - yum - outlined in black - so chic! It reminds me of a vacation dress to the Bahamas or Aruba OR even an evening out in July eating at an outside street cafe. Oh - I love the spring and summer!

I would make an addition. I would add a wide white belt to cinch of the waist. It makes you look thinner and it really pulls together the look. I love that wide belts are back! I bet you can find some on Etsy and buy handmade. The above belt is from Target.

I have been inspired by this ensemble to make some belted bags. I made a few in the past and LOVED them. I'll whip some of those up this season :>

He he he he!!!! I feel like a little kid leaving the candy shop with my bag full of penny candies (oh how I miss penny candy stores!!) I LOVE this new fabric. I am waiting on pins and needles until it gets here! I can't wait to get it! I LOVE the red and turquoise - so great for spring. Also, how COOL is the orange and yellow pop - so retro! What will I make with this??? I am in the process of addding other new fabrics to my selections - FABRICS - If you have been thinking about designing your own bag - I have some fab fabric coming!!!

My kids had a FAB Birthday Party!!

We had a GREAT time. Look at my 2 little ones snuggled together on the chair! I can't believe that they are 4 and 2!!! YIKES!!! Does time fly.

As the party was winding down, my son REALLY wanted to open his gifts. He was told that he could open them when the other kids went home. So, he walked around and told everyone if they could or could not stay!!! He told my friend, "OK, you are an adult with children so you can go home now." And to others without kids he said, "You can stay 'cause you don't have kids."

Well, I guess it worked for him because all of a sudden my house was clear!! He had motivation. I didn't even find out that this was happening until close to the very end! I hope my friends don't think that I was "kicking them out"!!!! Gotta love the things kids say!!!

I was told by a friend through myspace about etsy. So I checked it out. I sold items at local fleamarkets and shows. But never thought of the idea of selling online till now. I love it, its great.

Since I was 8 Years old, I was young when I started. I'm 28 now and still going strong with it all. I dont think I'll ever stop crafting. Its so rewarding.

What is your inspiration?

My mother was the most inspiring person in my life. Now she still is even though she has passed on. Now my daughter gives me all the inspriation I need.

What is your favorite piece in your shop today?

My Favorite piece would be the little blue sofa tissue box cover. Its a bright blue and its so adorable.

Planning a Birthday Party - friend and foe

Well, I am almost finished with the party for my kids - it's on Saturday. We're starting the day at a local moonbouce play area and coming back to out house for lunch and cake. My son will be 4 and is obsessed with Thomas the Tank Engine. He has been since he was 16 months old! I am so happy because those stinkers cost a fortune!! Anyway, he is having a Thomas cake (again!!). I decided to get it from Coldstone Creamery this year to get something different.

My daughter - who will be 2 (there birthdays ar 5 days apart :>) decided on a little mermaid cake. She was torn between the Hello Kitty, Princesses and Ariel - she finally made her decisions.

I have been working feverishly on my house in anticipation of this event. I really want to update my entire kitchen but won't do it for a couple of years. So, to keep me happy until I do that - I decided to paint everything that I could in my kitchen - walls, trim, cabinets - even the countertops! Yeah, i might be crazy but if I'm going to change it in a few years anyway, I thought, what the heck!! That's the picture above. Hmmm - you can either love it or hate it!!

So, I am off now to finish putting together my Independent Designer Friday post (and cleaning, laundry, cooking, etc.......)! I will be featuring TONS of lovely ladies and their respective (delicious :>) Etsy shops/websites! These are going to be some fabulous upcoming weeks!!

I just finished a wholesale order for a boutique - Lass & Laddie. These are the La Petite Sweetcake Crayon Bags that were designed. They turned out so ADORABLE!!! I was so psyched to see all of them sitting in a group looking all pretty and springy in their bright colors! I was so proud to ship these little babies off. Each bag measures approx. 6 inches by 7 inches and is 2 1/2 inches deep. Just big enough to carry around some crayons (8 to be exact) in the little pockets, notepads, pencils and stickers. ALL the essentials for every little girl :>

My kids and I made Easter baskets the other day out of old shoe boxes, construction paper, markers and good old foam stickers! I will post their masterpieces tomorrow.

Going Green - Organic Gardening Options

I found a company recently offering a wide range of organic weed and pest control products as well as organic fertilizer. Hey, I LOVE a green lawn come spring just like the next lady but, I am beginning to think that all of the herbicides I use to keep those dandelions away just isn't "dandy" for the environment!

How would you describe your crafts/Etsy shop?

Fun! I love to create fun pieces of art for your special place. Of course with a 3 year old daughter and 5 year old son, it isn't hard to tell where a lot of my influence comes from!

How did you get started?

I have been crafting all of my life. My mom painted wood items and went to craft shows while I was growing up and is still very crafty. I loved to "doodle" and paint, and after years of making things for my family and friends i desided (with a little nudging) to make a business out of it.

How long have you been crafting?

All 31 years (ok, so just after i could actually use crayons!)

What is your inspiration?

Color, my precious kiddos, friends, papers...everything I see really.

What is your favorite piece in your shop today?

I think my favorite piece isn't listed in my shop yet (it is coming soon!0 but as for what is IN my shop today...well, I have too many but I am partial to the "Has anyone seen my tiara?"- my little princess definitely pushed that one along!

How do you market/advertise your wares?

I have my own web boutique as well as my Etsy shop. I have more customized/personalized items in my web store than Etsy. I have a business blog (I am just getting started with that...) and a ton of word of mouth. I am so thankful for other crafty ladies who spotlight artist like me. That is a GREAT advertisement!

Any advice to fledgling crafters / entrepreneurs?

Do what you love and stick with it. The more I try to venture off in different directions the more i am reminded that it is important to stick with what you love. It will work in time and with tweaking. Start slow and build. A tree grows over time from a little seed....not overnight.

Toddler / Kid Tips - Keep your house clean!

We ALL need tips on how to keep our house clean and germ free. Here are some tips that I recently read in Better Homes and Gardens.

Kitchen:

1. Clean all contact points - counters, faucets, cabinet pulls, refrigerator handles, light switches, and garbage can lids. These all need to be sanitized. Use a good disenfectant. Be sure to read labels to use effectively and always rinse from a surface that may touch food.

Basement -

2. Change your furnace / air conditioner filter - check out Filtrete filters and SafeHome Filters. These companies offer filters that will rid your home of dander, pollen, mold and some dangerous gases as well.

Bathroom -

3. Fans - Showers and baths create a lot of heat and moisture. Be sure to dissapate that moisture so it doesn't have a chance to breed mold by running your fan for 20 minutes after your trip to the tub.

Living Room -

4. MY FAVE TIP!!! Remove Shoes - Create a NO SHOES POLICY throughout your house. It's super easy to do and you will leave all of the outside dangers out of your home - pet droppings, chemicals, viruses. This is an especially important rule for houses with children playing on the ground!

FAB skin care creams - ROC

All right, I am 33 and I will admit that I am searching for the Fountain of Youth - for my skin! I have been using ROC products for over a year now - the Eye cream and the Night Cream. I do love the way the products feel and I do notice that the skin around my eyes is fantastic. I am running low on the night cream so I decided to try somthing new - but stick with ROC. I DON'T have deep wrinkles but I do want to prevent them so, I decieded I am going to give the Retinol Correction Deep Wrinkle Night Cream a try. I also thought that while I add a deep wrinkle night, I should add a deep wrinkle day cream. Let's keep those bad boys AWAY!!!!! You can find these products at http://www.druugstore.com/. I have ordered from there before and received my products the NEXT DAY! The product costs are from $25 - $30 - not bad - I'm satisified!

This is a TERRIFIC bit of advice. It happens to be one of my New Year's Resolutions - just listen more. Sometimes we let information slip by that could really help us and/or the person talking because we aren't listening. We're just waiting for our turn to speak. I call it "the Stubbed Toe" syndrome. You tell someone that you just stubbed your toe and it stinks! He says, "Yeah, I stubbed MY toe last week and was in the hospital!" Big deal......I want to talk about MY toe! And it goes on and on.....

So, in short - LISTEN!!! Don't talk and enjoy. You might realize that you were missing something! :>

Going Green - Recycle Cell Phones!

Everyone loves their new gadgets! We have cell phones, ipods, cameras, blackberrys.......they are SO fun when they are shiny and new! You are left with the question - "What do I do with my old cell phone??"

When I am out grocery shopping, I do notice some bins that advertise recycling your cell phone - or maybe that was reading glasses!! Well, here's a bit of advice - check out http://www.call2recycle.org/. This company has partnered with many major retailers - Best Buy, Lowe's, Home Depot, Sears, Radio Shack, Circut City and Target - to offer convenient drop off locations for reycling your "old" cell phones and rechargable batteries.

The site offers an area where you can type in your zip to find the closest center. I found 12 located less than 7 miles from my house - very easy way to be green!

How did you get started?
I was creating jewelry as a hobby & as gifts for friends and family when people started asking to buy my jewelry. My first sale was a sparkly shamrock bracelet!

How long have you been crafting?
Honestly, all my life! My mother was a huge crafter and really made it fun for myself & my sisters. So for me to be creating jewelry is such a natural thing........I have been creating jewelry specifically for about 10 years now.

What is your inspiration?
I am inspired by my two beautiful daughters & supportive husband. I love to travel pretty much everywhere as well as we spend a lot of time at the beach in Florida and in Northern Michigan. The sand, the water & the sunsets are huge sources of inspiration everyday! Being a southern girl I love feminine, girly, fun things and that reflects a lot in what I design.

Don't give up. If you feel this is your calling in life then go for it! Sometimes it is learning a better way of doing things, marketing it differently, trying different shows, etc....I found that once I try something & it doesn't work then we try something else and try not to keep repeating the same mistakes. Also, don't be afraid to ask for help or advice from others that are being successful. Mentors are a great thing!

I add a story from my own week......I was washing the dishes from lunch in the sink a few days ago. My 2 year old daughter comes up to me with her favorite blanket in hand and begins to lay it on the dirty red carpet under the sink.

I begin to think to myself - don't do that it's dirty! But I just watch her work instead. She so meticulously lays the blanket out, carefully considering it's position. She then lays down on the blanket preparing for a rest.

Again, I think to myself - NO don't that's SO dirty! But, I refrain from speaking and continue to watch. As she's laying down, she picks her head up, looks at me, pats the ground next to her and says, "Lay here mommy."

Without even thinking twice about the dirty floor I lay down next to my daughter feeling so priviledged that she invited me! Ah, but the best was yet to come. As we were laying there face to face not more than nose distance apart, she kisses me. Not once, not twice, but all over my face. I was so happy I could have cried. How long will my little sweet want to do this with me? I realize how lucky I am right now.

What a sweet moment I didn't let escape me by worries of the everyday. :>

Going Green - Talking Trash

I often think about and research ways to help the environment. I especially think about reducing my waste. I use cloth diapers, reusable grocery bags, recycle all paper and cardboard and plastic, glass and aluminum.

I found some facts from Better Homes and Gardens that I want to pass to you. I always wondered what became of the items I recycled - here is some cool information.

Recycled Glass becomes food containers, tiles, landscaping pebbles and road surfacing.

Paper becomes newsprint, boxes, insulation, and animal bedding. **One Sunday paper recycled each month saves a tree a year!!!

Aluminum becomes beverage cans, cookware, bike parts, and tennis rackets. Steel becomes new steel and could become auto parts, filing cabinets or appliances.

Plastic turns into alot of things. #1 and #2 plastics become beverage and shampoo bottles, pipes, fleece, fencing, deck planks and gutters.

Sewing Tips - Fray Chek

Product Description accoring to Joann.com.

A colorless plastic solution which reinforces and locks fabric threads to prevent fraying or further wear after fraying. Withstands repeated laundering or dry cleaning.

This notion is great for some things but also has it's limits. I use Fray Chek mainly on the material that I have made slits in for magnetic snaps. I don't want it fraying under the snap and then revealing itself - especially on more delicte materials - satin, taffeta, etc.

I don't use Fray Chek on the ends of ribbon and or ends of exposed materials. I don't feel that it stands up to everyday use OR laundering very well. To seal ribbon ends, I heat seal with an open flame. For fabrics, you can serge the ends OR create sealed hem.

How would you describe your crafts/Etsy shop?

Macaroni and Glue is filled with simple, pretty ways to send a handwritten note to someone special. I offer a wide variety of notecards and stationery, including custom announcements and invitations (and I’m adding more every day!), many with a vintage feel. All are printed and/or assembled on high quality, heavyweight cardstock that just feels good in your hands. True paper-lovers know what I mean!

How did you get started?

I’ve always made my own cards for holidays, birthdays, etc. – for me, there’s just something about the personal touch. I want my friends and family to know that they’re important to me, so I invest the extra time in making something unique for their special day.

How long have you been crafting?

At my house, I’m in charge of making sure we stay on budget every month. When I quit my corporate job to stay home with my daughter a couple of years ago, I realized we had to make some drastic cuts. One of the first spending categories to be slashed was store-bought gifts. Although I had very little experience creating anything with my hands, I was determined that I would learn to make handcrafted gifts. I have always loved to receive something handmade, and I knew that with a little practice I could put together some lovely things. And I have! After making several personalized stationery sets as gifts for friends and family, I realized I absolutely LOVED working with paper. When friends and family began re-ordering custom cards, invitations and thank yous, I started thinking, “Hmmm… If they want to pay for my cards, maybe others would too?” My sister discovered Etsy shortly thereafter and passed on the link – so here I am!

What is your inspiration?

My 2-year-old definitely influences the way I see the world. My designs often invoke a sense child-like innocence and sense of wonder. Beautiful vintage images also form the basis for many of my designs. I love the process of searching for and discovering great artwork in public domain and copyright-free images (vintage ephemera, postcards, library of congress archives, old U.S. patent office archives, historical photos, etc.). When I stumble upon something that speaks to me, I can’t wait to begin making it uniquely mine. I’ll spend hours working with a single image – smiling all the while. If, at the end of the process, it doesn’t make me want to kiss my laptop, I’ll scrap it and begin all over with something else. All day every day I’m thinking about the gorgeous graphics I have waiting for me at home. If only there were more hours in the day!

I have grand plans for designing my own web site to house a blog and a showcase, but I think that’s a ways off. I’m trying to establish realistic goals for my business, one week/month at a time. My top priority is still my family, so I have to make sure I’m balancing my time.

Any advice to fledgling crafters / entrepreneurs?

That “naked” feeling you get when you list one of your creations and begin waiting for the view counter to go up is an indication that you are creating from a deeply personal place. And that is the best thing you can do for your business. If you’re “phoning it in,” it will be obvious. If you truly love what you do and can say that each of your pieces are manifestations of who you are as an artist, your shop will reflect that.

Your NEW Invigorating Morning Shower

Good Thursday Morning!!!! I found this fabulous body scrub sitting in my email inbox!! I am using my coffee grounds from this morning to make it! ENJOY! :>

Try this fabulous morning wake-up scrub made with coffee and natural scents! Used in high-end spas around the globe - why not add it to your regimen!!

This recipe is created with coffee and peppermint -- known in aromatherapy for its mentally stimulating, energizing properties. Along with raw sugar and olive oil to exfoliate and moisturize.

This recipie makes enough for 2-3 applications:

Tools and Materials:

1/4 cup olive oil

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1 cup pure turbinado sugar

15 drops peppermint essential oil (Mentha piperita)

1/2 cup used coffee grounds from a freshly brewed pot

Wake-Up Scrub How-To:

1. Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl; using a fork, thoroughly blend. Transfer the scrub to a wide mouthed jar, and store in a cool place until ready to use. The scrub will keep for one to two weeks, longer if refrigerated.
2. While showering, apply handfuls of the coffee scrub to wet skin in circular motions, starting at the feet and working up. The scrub contains oil, so it's best to do this over a rubber mat to avoid slipping. Pay particular attention to rough spots such as heels, ankles, knees, and elbows.
3. After scrubbing, cleanse skin as usual using a mild natural soap or body wash. Pat skin dry with a fluffy towel, and follow with lotion to seal in the moisture.

The First Sign of Spring!!

Snow Day with my Snow Babies!!

Snow days are always the best days! We had alot of fun for about 25 minutes until my son started talking about his freezing hands and my daughter wanted to "get in car". So, needless to say we spent 30 minutes getting ready to go outside and 20 minutes actually outside!!
They really did have fun while it lasted and the hot chocolate and animal crackers after our outside trip was truly welcomed!! :> This has been our only "true" snowfall this year and my daughter's first real snow adventure!! How fun!! I don't know how many more snow days we'll have this year :<

Describe your craft.

I design bridge jewelry catering to moms, brides, and fun, funky gals of all ages!

How did you get started?

A mom/friend of mine asked me to attend a jewelry design class at a local craft store. I liked an excuse to get out and be with other adults (I had a 2 year old at home) so I went to the class. I learned how to crimp in about 10 seconds. That's all I needed to get rolling.

How long have you been crafting?

I have been on a jewelry making binge going into my 6th year now. It's addictive, and being self-taught, I am still learning and growing my craft.

What is your inspiration?

Other moms. I listen and learn. That's what I tell my boys to do all the time! I get wonderful ideas from other women, and it may take me a month or a year to let the idea evolve in my head. I can have so many ideas brewing, they trip over each other at times.

What is your favorite piece in your shop? My Premiere necklaces are my favorite in that I hunt in antique shops and thrift stores to find unique pendants and pins. I turn them into unique necklaces that are, essentially, wearable art. Each necklace is different, and I never know how it will turn out. I just let myself go and the piece evolves wonderfully. I do have to admit that my proudest wares are the Breast Cancer Awareness Jewelry that I sell through the Breathing Room Foundation. I give 50% of the BCA jewelry sales straight to this foundation and they help families in the local area afflicted with cancer. What a great win-win for all. It is truly special for me.

How do you marketing your wares? I have a website that features what I do, why I do it and all of the retailers I sell to and foundations I fundraise for. Most of my success has been through personal marketing, meaning that I participate in artisan shows, craft shows and fundraisers and get the word out personally. Believe it or not, I have found that the one-on-one attention that I give to my customer, as well as the attention to detail that I give my work really seems to mean something to women who are tire of the "same old, same old". If a piece does not work for someone, I listen and learn why, then I fix it and make it BETTER. That's how I have become successful and have gained a reputation for quality and value.

What entrepreneurial advice can yo offer? Gosh, there is such a steep learning curve that I took on when getting into my own little jewelry business. I would suggest being open to new ideas, and writing them down. Having a mentor would be wonderful, and I wished that I had one to provide the shortcuts to learning....but then I might not have been as successful in how much attention I put to being myself and taking it back to the basics of running an honest, well intentioned business. Truly defining yourself and what you want to achieve is key. Do not be afraid to bounce ideas off your friends or partner. Do expect to make many mistakes, but do not hesitate to admit your shortcomings, fix it and make it better. Listen and learn.

Thursday Toddler Tips - LOVE the dresses from Granny Bs!!!

I really LOVE all of the fabric that Granny B's Clothesline chooses! They are modern and sophosticated yet fun, frilly, girly and young!! One thing I find in some independent designers is the push to move toddlers and young girls into "mini adults" WAY TO FAST through the use of too sophisticated designs and fabric selections!!! Let the babes be babes!!!

NOT Granny B! She really knows the importance of letting little ones stay little and enjoy their childhood days! Take a look at this dress called French Pink. It is so fun!! I LOVE paisley so it was a definite winner for me :>

She has a delicious line that extends into hairbows, jewelery, belts and tshirts. What a talented indie designing grandmom!!

1950 Vintage Vogue

So, I love vintage!! I decided that I want to make a "wedding dress" for myself in vintage style. Not my Wedding Dress but a dress that I can wear to weddings. I feel like people wear the same old same old to wedding and I decided that I don't want to blend anymore!!

I decided on this Vintage Vogue Pattern - V2960. I love the June Clever - ness about it. I can picture this dress in a delicious black silk dupioni with a fab vintage rhinestone brooch, white gloves and a funky vintage bracelet.

I know that it will take me a few months to finish it (doing it in between orders and being a mom and wife :>) but when it's finished it will be soooo worth it!! YUM!!!

Still in search of green products - I found Laundry Dropps. These little wonders claim to be very convenient (no messy detergent) and environmentally friendly - the lightweight product helps cut down on fuel for transport. This in turn reduces the amount of exhaust put in the air - NICE!

The company is based outside of Philadelphia (I like to support locals) and started at a mill they own making yarn for sweaters. They developed a detergent to help clean those sweaters and moved on from there!

How would you describe your crafts/Etsy shop?

It's a fun collection of my imaginings...paper mache' ornies, handpainted glass signs, framed initials, wooden baby signs...

How did you get started?

I've just always been an artsy sort of girl, graduated from college with a degree in Interior Design, and began staying home when my children were born. I had to have some sort of creative outlet & always loved to paint my furniture. When I realized that furniture was too much of a pain to ship, I decided to concentrate on my smaller stuff.

How long have you been crafting?
Ever since I can remember...2ish???

What is your inspiration?
nature, other crafters, using what I have on hand, garage sale finds.

What is your favorite piece in your shop today?
I LOVE my "I am Family" sign, & soon to be released "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" glass sign.

How do you market/advertise your wares?
By being involved in GOOD groups such as DSM, Interiordesignetsy, & Oketsy. I also have fun trading biz cards with others. This past fall I painted 200 baby signs for 200 gifts bags for a swanky Mommies Who Shop Holiday Market in Boston, MA & THAT was a fun challenge!

Any advice to fledgling crafters / entrepreneurs?
I was so nervous about going online...I was afraid I'd get too busy or that people wouldn't like my stuff! So, if anyone feels like me, my advice is to just jump in with both feet & just try it :-) It's never as bad as you think it will be. In fact, it's fun!!

Going Green - Hanky schmanky

In my quest to turn to all things helping the environment I have found this adorable site - Hankyschmanky!

This hanky pictured is called "Boogie Dance". ha ha ha :>

By using handkerchiefs we can cut down on the amount of waste in landfills. We can also cut down on the amount of trees that are cut down for tissue production.

Some of you are saying - oh my - gross, I don't want to carry a hanky around. Well, yeah, that may be true - it could be disgusting. But, how many of you carry around a dirty tissue in your pocket and use it over again?

Using hankies does require you to carry a few at a time (especially as a mom of toddlers) AND it does require you to do some laundry (biodegradable soap, of course!) but it will put you one step further towards helping our environment!

I have been searching for other hanky makers out there and have found several on Etsy. I really think that they are on to something.......Could hankies be the new COOL accessory??

I am about to take the plunge and buy some products from Shaklee. Shaklee is a corporation committed to providing healthy alternatives to cleaning our home, nutrition and weight management.

As I have been slowly converting my house over to a "green" household I have been talking with friends. I have a friend who uses Shaklee products and who raves about their effectiveness.

I have been thinking about purchasing the starter kit - which has everything from dish detergent to disenfecting wipes. It appears to be a real way to jump head first into "green" cleaning.

I will post follow ups after I receive and use my new Shaklee products! :>

Manic Monday Business Sense - Japanese Fabrics

Why are Japanese fabrics ALL the rage?? Yeah, I will admit that the patterns and colors are interesting. I like the feel of the "vintage" look fabrics.

I will admit that I loved Memoirs of a Geisha and have been fascinated with the culture since then.

I do cruise Ebay for some good deals on vintage kimono fabrics. I search around for good deals on Japanese fabrics (which are a bit on the pricey side - $8.00 for 1/2 yard).

I have found a site - Fabric Tales that offer a nice selection with reasonable prices. They have kids fabrics, modern japanese and traditional kimono like fabrics.

So, now I am off to find the next "japanese" in fabrics.......

Valentine's Day Kids Craft

With Valentine's Day QUICKLY approaching I was looking for a unique treat for my son's preschool Valentine card.

I found these delicious and simple looking rice krispie treats in a heart shape - FUN! Here is the recipie - http://jas.familyfun.go.com/recipefinder/display?id=40795. I am going to jazz it up by adding some pink and red sprinkles and possibly dipping one side into melted chocolate - YUMMY :>

Cellophane bags and ribbon can be found at your local arts and crafts store OR you can slip it into a simple ziplock bag!

Inside (or outside) the bag slip in a poem printed in red or pink ink and glued to a red construction paper heart that reads:

"Thanks for being my snap, crackle and pop friend!" OR

"You put the snap, crackle and pop into our friendship!"

Pampering bath and body goodies and natural soy wax candles/tarts, or as we refer to them, 'Cozy Melts'. ;)

How did you get started?

Cozy Moments started out of a desire to create luxurious Bath & Body Products. I suffered from dry skin most of my life and I became passionate about creating pampering and soothing products that would rid me of my dry skin. I spent a few years researching and experimenting before I began to sell my goodies.

How long have you been crafting?

6 years.

What is your inspiration?

The creative pleasure of blending my own natural and near natural ingredients and coming up with pampering goodies that soothe the senses and smooth the skin. I absolutely LOVE what I do. I feel so blessed I am able to do this from the comfort of my own home!

What is your favorite piece in your shop today?

My Fresh Strawberry & Cucumber Goat's Milk Soap. I love to make soap! It is my favorite thing to create. ;)

How do you market/advertise your wares?

Our dot com, Etsy, Our Blog, Ning Groups, DaWanda, Handmade Catalog, Flickr, My Space, Talent Database, Stylehive, Squidoo, and several other places.

Any advice to fledgling crafters / entrepreneurs?

Network and when you are done networking, do it again, and again, and again. ;) You have to get your name out there. ;) I have pulled several all- nighters just networking and I believe it has really helped my business grow. ;)

How would you describe your crafts/Etsy shop?
Eclectic, colorful, fun! We have a little bit of everything...baby stuff, magnets, jewelry, wall plaques, cards...

How did you get started?
Last fall we were in charge of our church craft sale. Before that we hadn't really been into the "craft world" very much. We had so much fun designing, creating, producing! We knew we couldn't stop anytime soon. Etsy seemed like the natural place to start "destashing" our creations.

How long have you been crafting?
We have been creating things for ourselves for as long as I can remember. Whether it's been sewing curtains or blankets or scrapbooking. It's only been recently that we decided to open our Etsy store and sell our products.

What is your inspiration?
Fabrics, scrapbooking products, color, nature, book, magazines, quotes.

What is your favorite place to shop today? A
fabric or scrapbooking store.

How do you market/advertise your wares?
Etsy, local shops, local craft fairs, Flickr, other misc websites we're a part of.

Any advice to fledgling crafters / entrepreneurs?
Stick with it especially thru slow times! Follow your gut, it's usually right. Most of all have fun!!

What is wearable art?? It's anything that you wear that you think is art!! In my recent searches on Etsy, I found this gorgeous bracelet. I found it in a store called Annie and Olive. It is simple gingham and a bit understated but that is what I LOVE about it!

I love the difference in it. I love the "country" in it. I love the classic in it. I love the timeless in it. I love the black and white in it!

Oh....if I only had an endless supply of money, the damage I could do. If only I had a place to wear it all to! With my little babes, I don't get to dress up too much!

But, you can bet your bottom dollar that I will have a KILLER handbag!!

Home Tip Tuesday - I LOVE Bon Ami!!

I have heard people talk about Bon Ami. I thought it was an urban legend. I didn't find it at target. I didn't find it at another local grocery store. I was so curious about its powers and its love of the environment....then ..... I found it at Wegmans!!!

I have to say that I LOVE it. I cleaned my white kitchen sink with it to see how it compared to Comet and it was fantastic! It cleaned the stains and didn't have an abrasive smell. Plus, it's made with no chlorine, no perfume, no dyes AND its BIODEGRADABLE!! It is also safe for stainless steel as it will not scratch.

My search for earth friendly products to help me weed bleach from my life is progressing!!

I addition to adding Clorox Greenworks (which I also found at Wegmans and NOT Target), Method products and Bon Ami, I have found Borax.

Borax is also a phosphate and chlorine free product. It can be used to deodorize, to do laundry, to clean and to treat stains. Again, this product is allowing me to kick my chlorine addiction. My daughter wears cloth diapers and I remember this product being suggested to add to the load as I clean the diapers. I couldn't/wouldn't kick the bleach habit then - NOW I have tried Borax and am competely satisified with its power.

There is a reason why these products have been around for soooo long!! They are helping me rest a little easier knowing that I am doing my little part to save the planet for my children :>

Anyone starting out with a business needs resources right?? I do (did) and am constantly reading between baking cookies, changing diapers, refereeing fights and sewing to find bigger and better (everyday) ways to market myself and my business.

I found my inspiration for this post in my recent reading of Parents magazine. I have read Goodnight Moon to both of my children and they both (at least my almost 4 year old son) know the words by heart (and me, of course)!!! However, I still read it on occasion because it has such a melodious, nighttime sound and rhythm. I even feel as though I am being lulled to sleep.

I remember watching a show with my son that featured the book being read by (I believe) Susan Sarandon. I loved her reading and interpretation but I know that my son wasn't impressed......it wasn't mommy (really, I felt the same way!) I started searching for a new nighttime book.

I found Goodnight, My Duckling which is a completely adorable book (and my daughter's FAVORITE) and I continued searching for more.

Back to Parents - it talks about "...bedtime ritual to include saying sweet dreams to the city or state they call home and to all the familiar landmarks from sea to shining sea?"

Home Tip Tuesday - Clorox Green Works

I have to say that I am excited to see yet another green cleaner on the market. I am in the process of really "buckling down" and switching over to greener - more earth friendly products. I use most Method products - hand soap, laundry detergent, laundry softner, tub and tile cleaner, floor cleaner. I am VERY satisified with the cleaning power, scent and the good feeling I get when I use them.

One bad cleaning product that I can't kick (but I have definetly scaled WAY back) is bleach. I love the way it smells when I use it to clean the sink and toilets. It must be because it was/is my mother's cleaning choice for most projects. It must make me think of childhood.

I am hoping that this new Clorox product will help me kick my infatuation with bleach! I was definetely looking and now I may have found my new cleaning love. New Pink Owl Fabric..

I saw it and I just HAD to HAVE it! I swear if you saw my fabric stash you may faint! I am completely and totally addicted to fabric. I admit it - "Hello, my name is Mackenzie and I am a fabric junkie." Is there a rehab out there somewhere? Wait a minute, this is an obsession I LOVE to have. I can't give this up! There are WAY to many fun, funky, vibrant, delicious fabrics out there waiting for me to buy and create something with! What will my new owl friends become?? A new slouch bag...a new convertible wristlet?....a new change purse?...oh my! The options are limitless!!

Thinking about buying a ruffler??

I have decided that I am sick of sewing a basting stitch and then pulling and gathering material by hand to do a ruffle stitch (ugh!!) Alot of times the stitch/thread breaks and the ruffle is uneven - so I say "fugedaboutit"...I am splurging and buying a ruffler. They are about $30.00 and you can buy one on www.ebay.com. I have a Brother machine so I decided that I am not going to buy a one size fits all, I am going to buy a Brother attachment. I personally think that $30.00 for a life saver in ruffles is well worth it! I will post again after I receive it and make some creation!!

How to make jeans into a skirt

I started this adventure by bookmarking this tutorial a long while ago as motivation and inspiration to try this someday. http://www.savvyseams.com/clothing/jeanskirt2.php Now my day has come. I am currently in the middle of converting a pair of jeans that I bought on clearance at Target into a cool skirt with a black and white motif patchwork in the middle of the front and back. I used this tutorial to give me the basic idea and then added on from there. I will be finished in a few days and I plan to post the tutorial here. It hasn't been very difficult - the most difficult has been to pick out the fabrics to use for the patchwork......

As I was surfing on the web until 2 am (as always) I came across a really cool tutorial. How to make baby/toddler leg warmers. I have a toddler girl and always admired the baby lega warmers that I have seen, so I was curious. I made them following her instructions and had excellent results. I also made them "my way" after using her instructions and cut out a few steps (I may post my own tutorial some day). Makin' some pouches

I have decided to design a new pouch for my shop. It will be as long as a pencil and as tall as a phone. I want it to have a zipper closure, some cool trim and ribbon detail with maybe a wristlet strap. I have come up with a design and I will be adding it soon - can't wait to show you!

As a handbag lover, I am always thinking about and admiring handbags. I recently designed my first slouch bag. I have found my new true love (sorry Kev).......it is so unassuming and relaxed....ahhhhh if I could only be more like my handbag!!!! It sits comfortably on my shoulder, holds all of my gear and really LOOKS like it's having a good time carrying all of my stuff around. A slouch bag looks like it can handle anything - makes you think that holding your stuff is just second nature - NO PROBLEMO!!! As I sit and watch "Wedding Date" (book much better that movie), I am totally envious of the characters being in England. They are attending a bachelorette party dressed in total argyle, preppy golf style going on a golf pub tour - so 80's!! YES!!!! How awesome. I am totally sending an email to my girlfriends telling them that that has to go on our schedule of "things to do"!!!!! So, I decided to search some arglye fabric. The Sweetest Scent.....

My son just woke me up as I watch my nightly fill of "Sex and the City". He starts the night out in his own bed and inevitably ends up in ours. So, after I tucked him into our king size bed (which we purchased for this VERY reason...) I decided to check on our 21 month old daughter. I carefully and quietly opened her door so as to not wake her. I was quickly welcomed by the MOST pleasant scent. An aroma that for some unknown reason is just present one day and seems to fade the next. The aroma of a baby. The sweet smell of a babe. I think back to when I was just a babe myself watching Poltergeist (the scene where Carolann passes through the mom). I remember imagining what that must have felt like. What it must have smelled like (at the time I imagined Downy because that was my favorite dryer scent). What pain she must have suffered. Fast forward to tonight and being hit by that smell, I know. I don't have to say it.... I know. I love the smell. I feel pain for the smell. It can't be described. And as I stood there and she began to rustle, I slipped away and breathed one more deep breath to remember. Because before I know it, and for reasons unknown, it will be gone............

Do you take the time to smell the smell?

Anklets Anyone??

So, I decided here tonight, as I drink my glass of vino......I, in my own fashion realm, am bringing back the anklet!!!!!! I LOVE it. I love retro. I feel like the anklet is a bit retro (correct me if am TOTALLY wrong!!!). I think they are sexy and distinct. I have found some that I enjoy - like the one pictured here. I find it to be so natural and calming - like I am the diver harvesting the delicious stones used in its creation. I would also love to have a sleek, elegant and blingy black and silver anklet. What lady couldn't use a black and silver anklet. OK guys, are you listening????? Buy your lady a black and silver anklet.......they are TOO sexy......and you'll send her back in time. When I was younger I LOVED anklets - circa late 80's andearly 90's. I have been inspired to TOTALLY bring the anklet back baby!!!! I have this fear that seems to crop up a few times a year - a fear of death. A fear of not being around to see my kids. A fear of missing "something". A fear of having regret. A fear that I have let a moment, a taste, a sound, a smell, a _______ slip by.

That fear translates itself many ways - There are times that I have had a rough day because of life and I may have been a "mean mommy" as a result of it. I have found myself choked up with emotion and crawling into bed with my 3 year old to lay with him and cry that the day is over and it's gone. What I had said or done that I regret is now a part of history that I can't take back from that day. I hadn't put life into my day.

What President Lincoln said is magic to me. Is this the answer to living a full life no matter how long you are here?

My resolution this year is to put in as much life as I can into each day and NOT to be afraid of what I might miss because I know that I will make every moment last as long as I can hold on to it.

New Spring Fabrics!

Hello out there...ere....ere....So, it's the dead of winter and yet I am BUSY thinking about Spring! What will the latest and greatest fabrics be?? What will be the fresh color combinations?? I, of course, LOVE pink and green so I will be featuring A LOT of those two colors! Black, white and brown are always favorites - every season. So, I am looking at a swirl print black and white, a zebra print and some floral. Just picked out some kicking madras prints - what's summer without madras?? Looking into some great damask also - a little chocolate and brown and maybe a little lime green and brown. I will be sure to load the pics as soon as I get them! See ya soon!

So the other day there was a fire incident at our neighbor's house. No major damage or injuries! There were 2 fire trucks and several ambulances and police vehicles. That night our water was very cloudy/dirty from the main tap for the hose and our kids couldn't take a bath. Now the quote is coming! A few days later, we were at my husband's office 30 miles from home. My 3 year old son heard a siren pass by on the street and said.......

So....gearing up for spring/summer before winter is even here!!! I found the most delicious madras fabrics - true patchwork madras - totally fab!!
